We Open Our High School in September 2019 for Students of 7th and 8th Grade
For children to overcome future obstacles, it is important to maintain their natural curiosity and desire for learning.
Budapest High School reimagines what we used to think about traditional ways of learning.
If someone strives to be more intelligent or more talented, they need the will to learn, practice, and make efforts to become greater. Students would like to receive more from the school than just a certificate.
Creativity is as important now in education as literacy and we should treat it with the same status.
Everyone knows about those instances when children spend a significant amount of time doing something that captures their interest. This level of immersion is what makes learning efficient. Students of Budapest High School can be immersed in workshop activities every day, surrounded by their peers with similar interests.
Our aim is to not only find our way in the digital world, but rather to shape it and become inventors of the future.
Producing creative media content is an efficient way of improving reading comprehension and writing skills.
It is possible to understand and try out everything from robotics to psychology. Students may learn about the environment or even the behaviour of atoms.
We search for local and global challenges, develop proposals for their solutions, and test them in our environment.
We are interested in the children themselves, not their grades. Therefore, we designed an application process specifically to come to know them as well as possible
Browse through our webpage and check the detailed descriptions of our workshops. Think about which workshop speaks to your heart the most, as you will need to choose one of them later. During the first year, you will have the opportunity to gain insight into the workings of each workshop.
If you are interested in learning with us, please subscribe as soon as possible.
We provide further information in email, after subscribing. You may raise questions and share your thoughts with us.
The application process for 2019 has started. After your registration you will receive an e-mail with the details of the next steps of the application process.
We refuse to believe in standardised application forms. Instead, we wish to see your unique way of thinking, your interests, and your creative skills.
The application process starts by sending you a form via e-mail, which you need to fill in and send back to us. Afterwards, we will send you topic proposals (you will pick one topic) and some hints about the preparation process so that you may begin working on your project.
The project is an individual work, in which you yourself determine what is important, interesting, or educational for you within the chosen topic.
Prepare a video (maximum. 5 minutes) about the project and send it to us.
There are no restrictions regarding the video; anything and anyone may be included if you believe they are important or help us understand your idea better.
You will have two weeks to send us the link to your project video.
We will be using English on a daily basis at school. We accept levels of absolute beginner as well as advanced and fluent, so it is acceptable if you do not speak English yet. However, it is important to note that we can accept more students with higher knowledge.
To measure your level of English, we will send you a link (after sending back your project video). The link will take you to an online placement test, then you have a week to complete that.
As a next step, we wish to meet you in person.
First, you need to choose the most suitable date for the oral exam (there will be multiple options), then you receive a 'school' type question a week before the personal meeting.
The question may not fit into your interests, but we would like to see that you are confident in such a situation. You will need to prepare your answer by the time of the exam.
At the meeting, you will be able to tell us about your project, and your thoughts and answer on the other question.
There will be 6-7 of your peers along with the Budapest High School team at the oral exam, so you will not be alone.
It will be exciting and inspiring to listen to each other in person.
Do not forget: we may be choosing you, but you also need to come to know us as well as possible before making your decision.
It is incredibly important that both you and your family know exactly what to expect, should you decide to join Budapest High School.
Therefore, we would like to meet your family as a final step. We shall make a separate appointment for this.
We are looking for student in September 2019 who are currently (2018/2019 school year) in the 6th, 7th or 8th grade.
According to our plans, the school will be extended later, and we will be able to accept students above 8th class, from 2020.
Our schools are powered by our teachers: schools are collaboratively designed and implemented by the teachers. They have collective autonomy to make the decisions influencing the success of a school. Simply put, our teachers decide what and how they teach.
We have our first senior teacher for the high school but we are still in the search process to find the best suitable teachers for our high school team.
If you are interested and would like to be a part of the Budapest High School team, follow the link and apply!
When children of mixed ages coexist in a group they naturally help each other: older kids learn responsibility and can teach the younger ones what they already know (remember, teaching is the best way to learn something!), and the young ones stretch themselves to catch up to the older ones they look up to.
Budapest High School’s main aim is for English to become a part of everyday learning and communication. What we wish to achieve is for children to use English sources (Wikipedia and so on) as confidently as Hungarian ones when searching for an answer.
In practice, this means that we measure the applicants’ level of English knowledge. We accept different numbers of applicants within different levels of English proficiency (ranging from absolute beginner to fluent).
We have explored several locations and properties in the last few month. Finally, we found the ideal spot for Budapest High School.
The spacious shop, close to Fővám tér, on Belgrád rakpart (Havas utca corner) is 500 sqm. It has a spectacular view to the Danube. The property seems a perfect place for us to start the high school in september, 2019. We will start the reconstruction works in April.
Services of Budapest High School are financed by the parents. Average monthly contribution per person is HUF 155,000 (12 monthly contributions per year; does include catering fee).
In case a family pays more than this, it will be possible for students to join the group who otherwise would have been financially unable to do so.
We wish to accept families of different financial backgrounds; therefore, we have determined fixed places in five categories so that 60% percent of the families may assist the remaining 40%. Applicants from all financial categories may take part in the application process. Those offering a higher amount will enjoy advantages in their own category. We only alter the number of places for a category if the number of successful applicants is too low for another one.
We kindly ask every applicant to determine the exact amount of their contribution within the chosen category based on their own financial ability. Contributions will be used for improving the school.
One-time fees apart from monthly contributions:
Deposit: twice the amount of the monthly fee (2 months’ fee plus catering fee – it is repaid upon “graduation”)
School founding fee: same as the amount of the monthly fee (1 month’s fee plus catering fee – not repaid)
Our school will accept 9-12th classes students from September, 2021.
The accreditation proces has started (1-8th classes). According to our plans - depending on the time frame of the process - Budapest High School will start with approved accreditaton in September, 2019.
Up until the accreditation would be proven, our student are registered as private student at one of our partner schools.
